I think the difference between man and tree is only one of surface details. The main thing that distinguishes us from trees is our need to move over the surface of the earth to find food, whereas trees can do this while remaining rooted to the same spot. Yet even some people root themselves to the place they were born, and in olden times their music-making was a natural expression of themselves and their place.
And trees will attract certain species of bird to their branches - these birds then sing the folk song of that tree.
And each particular tree has its uniquely-shaped leaf that rustles and so expresses the song of the wind in a special way.
Then men come and fashion trees into violins and guitars and lutes - and the trees are made to sing in men's hands.
Certain trees move over the surface of the earth in time (from the point of view of a mountain), the creeping willow will kneel over when it gets very tall, then new roots will grow and produce a new trunk - so that the tree moves several feet - then fifty years later this happens again...
And of course in olden times when people fashioned trees into ships, these trees would move over the waters, taking singers and their songs to new countries, as the wind carries the pollen to distant flowers ...
So I hope you, dear listener, enjoy the fruit of these songs - the moving of my fingers across the strings was no more than the rustling of leaves, my words the chattering of beaks in the branches of my hair....
